The best part about putting together shows is it raises my awareness/appreciation for the bands we end up working with, something that has kind of ruled my week as of late. Fishboy’s upcoming record features a press release nugget that’s slightly mind blowing, and I quote…
Instead of gathering the band together to spend precious writing and arranging hours on these songs, the decision was made to blindly put them in the hands of a group of musicians with nothing to lose. Michener decided to hand over all musical duties and decisions to a local Denton, TX group of super-producers known as the Om Nom Noms. Michener took one trip into the studio, recorded vocals and scratch guitar, the guitar was deleted, and the Noms reconstructed the songs however they saw fit. Some upbeat songs became ambient, some hushed finger picked songs became rockers, and anything was possible in between.
Sounds fun right? I’ve heard snippets of the album, and if tracks like “Cobra, Cobra” are indication the album is going to find it’s self on many an area best of list, along with providing the band with an opportunity to further it’s national standing.
Fishboy- Cobra Cobra
Giggle Party, and Math the Band may be the greatest complimentary bands of all time to those suffering from raging ADD, both overload the joy receptors in a persons brain with their hyper-kinetic pop. Currently on tour supporting their latest release, Don’t Worry, Math the Band is making quite a bit of national noise, receiving a “bonkers” label from NPR, which let’s be honest is well deserved. take a listen to their track “Tour de Friends” and get excited for their set Friday night.
Math the Band- Tour de Friends
Giggle Party is one of the funnest bands I’ve ever experienced live, they’re personable, talented, and just crazy enough to do things like a Twitterview with us. They more then deserve their DOMA nomination, and hopefully those of you who attend Friday night convert over to the Giggle madness. I’m excited to be one of the first people to post their new video for “Jason Bought a Hatchet” a video so deleriously fun it almost captures how amazing these guys are live.
As an added bonus here’s a track off their first EP.
Giggle Party- Corporate Whore
Also, I’d like to thank Annex House for having us, they guys there do a fantastic job of fostering a sense of camaraderie amongst bands, fans, and the community, we couldn’t be happier to be apart of what they do.
Hope to see you all Friday, and please if you like the tracks make your way to a retailer and pick up a copy of the artist’s work.
