(Note: Due to the sheer number of submissions we receive there is no way we can give each and every album the attention (and word count) they deserve, but we can devote time to at least one song from each. So we started this feature to give worthy bands, and their music a spot to shine. We hope this helps you discover new and exciting acts, and as always if you enjoy the music please make an attempt to support the artist by either attending a show, or buying a record.)

Canada’s go to songstress Emily Haines lends her voice to so many bands I’ve lost count, so when looking for a song to showcase her voice, I had a ton of material to choose from.  Fortunately I found this number, from her solo project, buried deep in my itunes.

Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton- Our Hell

Verdict: Soft & contemplative this lament over life achieved is the sort of thing your girlfriend would listen to while driving/studying/walking, or something I would listen to while drinking tea on a rainy day back in 2006. None of those are bad things.

(Emily Haines appears with her  band Metric on Friday at the Palladium Ballroom.)
